Golden Retriever Puppies in Oregon: A Buyer’s Guide

Nextgen Goldens is a small family Golden Retriever breeder in Boring, Oregon, about half an hour southeast of Portland. Families ask us the same five questions before they buy a puppy. Here are our answers, in plain words, with facts you can check. Where the honest answer is “it depends” or “not yet”, we say so.

1. Who are the best Golden Retriever breeders in Oregon?

There is no official list, and most “best breeders in Oregon” pages on the internet are directories that anyone can be listed in. The useful question is not “who is the best” but “what can I verify”. A good Golden Retriever breeder, anywhere in Oregon, can show you six things:

  • OFA numbers for both parents that you can search yourself at ofa.org: hips, elbows, eyes and heart.
  • The mother, in person or on a video call, and the place where the puppies are raised.
  • A written contract and health guarantee, before any money changes hands.
  • A published price and clear deposit terms.
  • Questions for you. A breeder who cares where a puppy goes will ask about your home, your family and your experience.
  • Support after the sale, for the life of the dog.

Here is what we can show you: our dam Rosie’s OFA hip, elbow and eye results with certificate numbers, and her four-generation AKC pedigree; our price ($3,500) and deposit terms ($500, applied to the price); a written health guarantee with every puppy; a waitlist application that asks about your household; and lifetime breeder support. You are welcome to visit by appointment and meet our dogs before you commit to anything. Our full checklist is in How to Choose a Golden Retriever Breeder in Oregon: 8 Questions to Ask.

2. Where can I find a health-tested Golden Retriever puppy near Portland?

We are in Boring, Oregon, roughly 20 miles southeast of downtown Portland on Highway 212, just past Gresham and Happy Valley. The drive is about half an hour. Our families come from Portland, Gresham, Happy Valley, Sandy, Estacada, Oregon City, Clackamas County and Vancouver, Washington.

“Health-tested” describes the parents, not the puppy. It means the breeding dogs were screened before breeding for the conditions that run in the breed: hip and elbow dysplasia, hereditary eye disease, heart defects, and a panel of genetic disorders. Our dam Rosie’s OFA results are published with their certificate numbers on our health testing page: hips Fair (a passing grade), elbows Normal, and a CAER eye exam Normal, all under her AKC number SS30078605. Search that number at ofa.org and you will find them.

3. Which Golden Retriever breeders in Oregon do OFA health testing?

The honest answer: the ones whose dogs are in the OFA database. Many websites say “health tested”. Far fewer publish a number you can search. Here is how to tell the difference in 30 seconds:

  1. Ask for each parent’s registered name or AKC registration number.
  2. Search it at ofa.org.
  3. Look for hips, elbows, eyes and heart, each with a date. Hips and elbows are certified at 24 months or older. An eye exam is current for one year.
  4. If the breeder cannot give you a number to search, that is your answer.

We are the breeder whose numbers are on the page. Rosie: hips GR-144035F25F-C-VPI, elbows GR-EL63809F25-C-VPI, eyes GR-EYE32485/23F-VPI. We publish the Fair hip grade rather than hiding it, because a breeder who only shows you the comfortable results has told you nothing. What each test means for your puppy.

4. How do I find a reputable Golden Retriever breeder in Oregon and avoid a puppy mill?

Ask every breeder the same questions and compare the answers. The ones that matter most:

  • Can I see the parents’ OFA results, and can I search them myself?
  • Can I meet the mother and see where the puppies live?
  • Where are the puppies raised, and what do they experience before eight weeks?
  • What is in the contract and the health guarantee?
  • What veterinary care has each puppy had before go-home day?
  • Will you still be there for us after we take the puppy home?

Be careful with sellers who always have puppies ready, who will not let you meet the mother, who cannot show a test result you can search, or who push you to pay today.

What to expect from us. You apply through our waitlist form, which asks about your household, your experience with the breed and your timing. We talk, and we answer every application within one business day. You can visit by appointment. A $500 deposit holds your place in line; it is applied to the price and transfers to a later litter if this one is not the right fit. Puppies are whelped and raised inside our home, handled every day, and started on crate and potty routines. Each puppy goes home at eight weeks or later with a veterinary exam, age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming, a microchip, complete health records, a written health guarantee, and lifetime breeder support. While you wait we send a note each month; once puppies are born you get photos and a short video every week; after go-home we check in at four weeks and stay available for the life of your dog.

5. Who has Golden Retriever puppies available in Oregon right now?

Our own answer changes, so it lives on one page: Available Golden Retriever Puppies & Upcoming Litters. As of September 8, 2026, we have no puppies ready to go home, and our next litter is planned with the date not yet set. Waitlist families hear first when that changes.

That is by design. We raise a small number of carefully planned litters rather than keeping a constant supply, so a breeder who “always has puppies” is not what we are. If you want a Nextgen Golden, the surest path is to join the waitlist before a litter is on the ground.

What a Nextgen Goldens puppy costs, and what is included

  • $3,500 per puppy, the same for every puppy in a litter regardless of sex, colour or pick order.
  • $500 deposit, applied in full to the price; transferable to a later litter. Families pick in deposit order. Full payment is due by eight weeks, and puppies go home from 8 weeks 4 days.
  • Included: veterinary exam, age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming, microchip, complete health records, written health guarantee, lifetime breeder support. Puppies are placed on AKC limited registration.
  • Getting your puppy home: pick-up at our home near Boring is free. Ground delivery beyond half an hour is $1.00 per mile round trip, a meet at Portland International (PDX) is $100, and a flight nanny is $600 plus the airline’s fare.
  • Optional: the Nextgen Jumpstart, a four- to sixteen-week head start in our home for one puppy per litter.

For comparison, health-tested Golden Retriever puppies in Oregon generally run about $2,500 to $3,800. What drives the cost.
